Saturday Pick 3: Week 10

After traveling for 3 straight weeks, and no it was not the glamorous type of travel, it was nice waking up at home for a change. Unfortunately, it will be a short stay due to a wedding in Cancun next weekend, yes this qualifies as ‘glamorous’ travel. Time on the road has given me time to do some good handicapping, or for those of you who followed my picks last weekend, some much needed soul searching! However, the weekend started off on the right foot with Pittsburgh covering Friday night (and winning outright!) and I hope for more of the same results today.

Navy @ Cincinnati (-13)

This just hasn’t been a good year for Navy, or their backers in the betting markets. Last week they came through, although you could argue that Notre Dame could have beat them by 40 if they hadn’t pulled back in the 2nd Half. Regardless, they go back on the road this week to face a very intriguing one-loss Cincinnati team. The Bearcats haven’t played a difficult schedule yet they also haven’t blown anyone out of the water to this point, which is why I was surprised this line opened as high as it did. The line didn’t move all week, leading me to believe it was set here for a reason.

Play: Cincinnati -13

Stanford @ Washington (-10.5)

After a lackluster 4-0 start, Stanford has fallen on hard times, losing 3 out of 4 including last weeks 4th quarter collapse against Washington State at home. Now, they head north to play the other team in the state of Washington, who is also reeling after losing two of three in Pac12 play. Both teams, and Heisman hopefuls, have failed to live up to expectations this season, but that doesn’t mean this won’t be a good matchup. I expect both defenses to come out with impressive showings in this game, making the hook crucial once the line creeped over 10.

Play: Stanford +10.5

California @ Washington State (-9)

I can’t believe I’m putting two Pac12 games up here today, but its been an odd few weeks. This line opened at 10, so when it got down to 9 I was really surprised. Cal played a brilliant game defensively against Washington last week, but going on the road to play this Air Raid offense is going to be a much different experience. The Cougars season has really picked up after their sole loss to USC, with their top 10 offense (S&P+ rating). To stay competitive in this game, Cal will need to score points, but I don’t think they are good enough keep this one within single digits.

Play: Washington State -9
